Geographic Information Systems

The wetland sites all have invasive plants growing “out of control.” The towns of Cohasset and Scituate are trying to get more tidal water into the marshes in order to kill the salt intolerant invasive plant called phragmites. Students will learn how to use GPS technology to create maps of the plant’s extent. These maps will be used to measure change over time. This is a hands-on high tech project that combines field work with computer mapping.
