Work with local, professional architects to create professional-calibre schematics and drawings that re-design CSCR as a research facility and community meetinghouse.
WHAT IT IS: A four (4) week studio-based architecture and planning program that is based upon the iconic summer Career Discovery Program at the Harvard Graduate School of Design. Professional architects and planners will guide students through a model process of imagining the future of CSCR’s facilities and harbor campus. It will end in a team-based presentation of a design that could include drawings and digital and physical models.
WHAT YOU WILL LEARN: Working with a real client (CSCR Leadership), you will learn to solve timely planning and land use issues, build a visual presentation including architectural drawings and models, and fundamental design principles.
WHAT YOU WILL GAIN: Portfolio images, opportunities for unique experience-based recommendations, computer aided design skill development, design experience for your resume, opportunities for high-profile profile presentations if desired, plus the chance to experience the design process and decide if a career path in architecture, planning, or engineering may be right for you.
FACULTY: Susan Hoadley is the Design Principal and Architect at Hoadley Martinez Architects in Cohasset. She will lead the group through the process of designing the Cohasset Sailing Club as a model for our work and we will observe the building and how it works in imagining our process. On the academic side, Susan has been a Thesis Advisor to degree candidates at the Boston Architectural College, and has teaching and design jury experience at the Harvard Graduate School of Design, University of Pennsylvania School of Architecture, Wentworth Institute of Technology, and Rhode Island School of Design (RISD.)
