Formally founded in 2002, the Cohasset Center for Student Coastal Research (CSCR) was conceived in the mid 1990’s through a series of Cohasset High School professional development workshops led by social studies teacher, Jack Buckley. Today, CSCR is a leading community-based and student-centered institution that offers nationally recognized, authentic environmental education and research for middle, high school, and college students.
We believe that all students everywhere need the authentic, community-based, place-based experiences we offer. Why?
Our experiences engage students in the outdoor environment. We sustain our community-based research experiences throughout the year. Unlike school, our inquiries carry on with students year after year. Our rich, authentic, inter-disciplinary approaches hold the opportunity for student engagement throughout their grade 6 – grade 12 journey– and into their post secondary school choices. We invite students to connect their interests in science, engineering, social studies, business, the arts, literature, writing, and the trades with the rich experiences we offer.
We are a community of learners for students with passions in all disciplines, for the complex suite of local and global challenges we face require the talents of all.
We believe in making the world better for all. We believe we can build an enduring understanding of equitable sustainability. We believe that the greater outcomes for which we strive lie in building within all a passion for community stewardship and civic engagement.
We take inspiration from many sources. From the Preamble of the Constitution calling us to recognize and embrace the common good to the newfound wisdom that the traditional ecological knowledge of indigenous peoples might serve us well; from the rigorous science supporting Project Draw Down solutions for reducing climate-driven harm to expanding our capacity to see how the United Nations’ SDGs (Sustainable Development Goals) manifest themselves at the local level. We are committed to the work of building community, for all people everywhere strive for the very same things. All people, everywhere.
Join us. Help us grow our mission, deepen our impact.
